Color Confidence

Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet

“Colors, like features, follow the range of the emotions.” - Pablo Picasso

My favorite time of year is when the seasons change. As my coworkers have pointed out, I tend to dress one season ahead. In winter, I was schlepping up and down from the stockroom in my bright green Bottega Veneta sandals - nothing was going to stop me! Now I’m already purchasing outfits for our summer vacation (#alice+olivia). I’m addicted to those bright hues of yellow, orange, and green….in this photo the contrast of red and blue are just stunning! So, why am I attracted to those particular colors? (Don’t get me wrong - vibrant hues are the “must have” of the season! I’m equally attracted to various shades of pink - hot pink, blush pink, you name it - but that doesn’t seem very “in” right now.)

Anyhoo, as you may already know, there is a psychology behind color. According to https://londonimageinstitute.com/how-to-empower-yourself-with-color-psychology/

red - excitement, love, strength, energy [my psychologist says it’s because monkeys look for red fruit that is ripe and that this is a very primordial attraction - you decide!]

orange - confidence, success, bravery, sociability

yellow - creativity, happiness, warmth, cheer

green - nature, healing, freshness, quality

blue - trust, peace, loyalty, competence

pink - compassion, sincerity, sophistication, sweet

etc, etc, etc…..please visit the website

SO, as it turns out, as complex human beings we can identify at any given time with any color of the rainbow! For myself, I can relate to all of these descriptions, and I have every one of these colors in my wardrobe. The only one not listed on the website referenced above, is “animal print” - my favorite fall “color.”
